It’s not quite as radical as it seems. I’ve been holidaying
in the region since I was 7, when my parents got together with a group of
friends and bought 2 properties next door to each other. Almost every summer
since has been spent at the ‘French house’, going to local markets, swimming in
the lakes, village fêtes, and trying my best not to speak French! I therefore
know the area well, and my parents have built up a network of friends who we
are slowly getting to know, and who are all very enthusiastic about us moving
to the area.
So why the move? We have a dream! Of spending more time together as a family. Of living more self-sufficiently, growing our own veg and raising chickens, spending more time outside and of course learning French! Instead of dreaming about the life we want, we’re actually going to try and live it. We know it will not be easy. There is the real possibility of it not working out and having to return to the UK, but we will try our hardest to make it work.
This therefore is my bedtime reading. Or more accurately the book I skim read whenever I can during the day, as since having children the only time I have managed to actually read a book has been on holiday. This blog will follow our journey from living in the UK to living in France, the highs, the lows, and everything in-between.
Come and join us!
